FAQ
  • Application and Leases

    Where can I apply?

You can apply at GranvilleTowers.com, and can access the online application by clicking the “Apply Online” link at the top of every page.

What happens if I sign a lease at Granville and then decide to go to school elsewhere?

Our lease allows for your contract to be cancelled without financial penalty as long as you provide us with proof of enrollment at the other school no later than 60 days prior to the lease start date. This should be sent to AHinson@AmericanCampus.com.

What are the requirements of the Guarantor?

The guarantor will need to sign the guaranty agreement. If the resident is not of legal age to execute a contract, the guarantor will be required to sign both the lease and guaranty agreement.

All residents require a guarantor to complete the guaranty agreement.

Can I be my own Guarantor?

A resident can act as their own guarantor if they can show documentation as outlined in the lease agreement that they have income greater than three times the rental installment.

Is insurance coverage for my belongings included as part of my Lease Agreement?

Coverage for your personal belongings is not included as part of your Lease Agreement. Renters insurance can provide coverage for loss or damage to your personal belongings (including fire, theft, or natural causes). Renters insurance is required with all residents having a minimum of $100,000 in personal liability coverage. Please click here for more information.

    What is an individual lease?

An individual lease provides each resident with their own separate lease agreement and responsibility for his/her rental installments and applicable utility and parking charges. By signing an individual lease, you are only taking responsibility for your rental installments and lease terms and will not be held liable for any delinquent amounts owed by your roommate(s).

  • Payment

    Semester Installment VS Monthly Installment?

If you are on the Semester Installment Plan, you will pay Granville in 2 equal installments, once each semester. This payment is due July 1 & December 1.

If you are on the Monthly Installment Plan you will pay in 10 equal installments. Installments are due on the 1st of every month per the payment schedule outlined in the lease agreement. Payment goes from July 1 - April 1. The typical lease term is approximately 9.5 months of occupancy which coincides with the university's academic calendar. The resident is charged a total rent amount for the contracted occupancy period.

How can I make a payment?

We accept checks, money orders and cashier’s checks in our office made payable to the community name. As an alternative payment option we also accept credit card, debit cards and ACH payments online here for your convenience. We are unable to accept cash.

Do you send me a bill every month?

No, bills are not sent to residents each month, but you may see payment reminders posted around the property.

  • Guarantor

    When is a guarantor required?

All residents require a guarantor to complete the guaranty agreement.

Can I be my own guarantor?

A resident can act as their own guarantor if they can show documentation as outlined in the lease agreement that they have income greater than three times the rental installment.

What paperwork is required with a guarantor?

The guarantor will need to sign the guaranty agreement. If the resident is not of legal age to execute a contract, the guarantor will be required to sign both the lease and guaranty agreement.

  • Application Process

Can I fill out an application online?

You can access the online application by clicking the “Apply Online” link at the top of every page.

  • Roommates and Room Assignments

Do you have a roommate matching service?

Yes! Our roommate matching program is powered by RoomSync–a roommate matching app. You will have the opportunity to create a personal profile, search, filter, chat and match with other residents who will be living in the community. You decide what matters most when narrowing down your search. Want a roommate with the same major? You got it! Prefer to live with someone who goes to bed early? No problem! Looking for a roommate who enjoys college football? No sweat! You control your search and matching criteria to find the perfect roommate.

Please note that we do not assign roommates based on the information you included in your application; you must still indicate your preference via RoomSync. Granville roommate and suitemate preferences are due via RoomSync by June 12, 2021.

    Can I request specific roommates?

Yes! You can search for and match with specific roommates in the RoomSync app. Change your mind? No problem! You can modify your matches if your preferences change up until the matching period close date.

How are roommates and suitemates assigned?

It is not necessary to know who you want as your roommate and/or suitemates prior to applying to live at Granville or signing a lease. In fact, that part of the process happens after the lease is signed. After a student has signed their lease, they will receive a link to join our RoomSync program, which is where Granville residents can search and select their future roommate and/or suitemates. The RoomSync app will ask residents questions about their preferences and then show them other respondents who answered similarly. You can browse potential matches or even enter the name of a specific individual if you already know who you would like to live with. Please note that we do not assign roommates based on the information you included in your application; you must still indicate your preference via RoomSync. Granville roommate and suitemate preference via RoomSync has officially closed.

May I request a specific tower?

First-year residents are not permitted to submit a tower request; this is a perk reserved for our upper-class residents.

Am I allowed to request a specific unit?

You may email unit, tower, and location requests to us at granvilleroomsync@gmail.com. We may not be able to accommodate your request. Your room assignment will be communicated to you in the summer.

When will room assignments be sent?

Room assignments will be sent on July 15, 2021

  • Dining

How do Granville meal plans work?

The Agora is our on-site eatery, and a meal plan is included with the rent and cannot be excluded from your lease. The Agora operates as an all-you-care to eat facility which means that once a resident or customer comes in, they are welcome to visit as many food stations as they would like and return for unlimited seconds. Therefore, you should consider a “meal” an entry into the Agora, rather than referencing a specific quantity of food.

Meal plans are not interchangeable with campus dining facilities. The Granville Towers meal plan gives students access to the Agora only. Food at dining facilities on campus must be purchased a la carte or with Carolina Dining Services.

    • Unlimited Meal Plan: This entitles the resident to enter the Agora as many times as they would like throughout the semester.
    • Block Plans: Block meals reference the number of entrances into the Agora that a resident has throughout the course of the semester. The block plan offers flexibility as a student may use more meals during one week over another or even towards the beginning of the semester as opposed to the end. However, it is a set amount that needs to be budgeted over the course of the semester.
      • 100 meals per semester/approximately 6 meals per week (assuming a 16 week semester)
      • 160 meals per semester/approximately 10 meals per week (assuming a 16 week semester)

How do I change my meal plan?

You may change your meal plan until August 1, 2021. Those requests can be made through the Community Portal. To request a meal plan change, log into the Community Portal using the same email address and password you used to submit your application. Click on the “Leases” icon, and then click “Request a Change to My Lease.” Next, a pop-up box will open. Enter August 14, 2021 as the “Requested Lease Change Effective Date.” Select “Other” as the “Lease Change Request Type,” and indicate your desired meal plan change in the comment section.

You may not decrease your meal plan for the Fall semester after this August 1 deadline, but you can decrease your meal plan for the Spring semester.

Requests to increase the Fall meal plan after the August 1 change deadline may be submitted after September 1.

If a resident does not wish to upgrade from the 100 block to the 160 block because they only need a small number of meals, a 10-block reload can be purchased for $90 in the Business Office, and the meals will expire at the end of the semester, just like their initial block meals.

What hours is the Agora open?

The Agora, our on-site dining facility, is open the following days and times:

    • Monday-Friday 7am-8pm (7:30pm on Fridays)
    • Saturday-Sunday 10am-7:30 pm
    • Late Night Grill (Sunday-Thursday) 8:30pm-11pm.

Do Granville residents typically purchase a meal plan on campus in addition to their Granville meal plan?

We do not have data regarding purchases of meal plans through Carolina Dining Services, but we generally advise to hold off on buying another meal plan until your student has settled into their regular routine after the first couple of weeks into the semester.

  • Renters Insurance

Is insurance coverage for my belongings included as part of my Lease Agreement?

Coverage for your personal belongings is not included as part of your Lease Agreement. Renters insurance can provide coverage for loss or damage to your personal belongings (including fire, theft, or natural causes). Renters insurance is not required but highly recommended.

  • Residence Life

Do first-year students who live at Granville feel isolated because they do not live in on-campus housing?

Absolutely not! Granville is home to nearly 1,300 students, over 75% of which are first-year students. We make every effort to ensure our residents not only get involved on property through floor and community-wide programming, but also on campus. We will notify you of upcoming events that are occurring at both Granville and on campus. We want our residents to meet as many friends as possible, therefore we give them resources to accomplish that.

Are you a part of the First-Year Experience (FYE)? How can students get to know others at Granville?

Yes! Our RAs hold monthly programs most frequently geared toward connecting residents with similar interests or academic/professional pursuits on their floor. Some examples of these programs have been a do-at-your-own-pace partner scavenger hunt, slow friending, and trivia nights. Each floor also has a GroupMe with everyone in it and this year we have kept up with a Granville-Wide GroupMe as well for announcements and for students to ask questions. We also host a community-wide program each month for residents to participate in. This year, all programs have been virtual, but we’re hoping to be able to safely host some type of in-person programming next year. You can learn more about our FYE programming by clicking on this link.

What do Resident Advisors (RAs) do for first-year residents?

RAs do a whole lot for their first-year residents. They plan social, personal development, and academic/professional programs, roommate and suitemate agreements and conflict mediations, serve as a point of contact for any questions students may have, serve in an on-call rotation for any after-hours emergencies residents may have, and hopefully be a welcoming presence where the residents call their home.

  • Move-in

I have signed a lease with Granville for the 2021/22 academic year - when can I move in?

Please stay tuned for additional updates about this process. Move-in appointments will be required, and those appointments will begin on Wednesday, August 11 and run through Sunday, August 15th. More specific details will be forthcoming.

There will be a maximum number of reservations in each move-in appointment time slot, and ABSOLUTELY NO exceptions will be made to add additional students to a full time slot or day.

For university sponsored groups and programs requiring in person attendance prior to August 11th, there will be an early arrival application shared in the coming weeks.

What about virtual sorority recruitment, beginning August 13th? Can I move in early to attend this?

There will be available move-in appointments prior to the start of virtual sorority recruitment. If these fill up, NO exceptions will be made to add additional people to full time-slots or days, even for virtual recruitment.

Priority to select earlier move-in time slots WILL NOT be given to individuals participating in virtual sorority recruitment. Move-in appointment selection will be first-come/first-serve, after the details are shared via email.

Virtual sorority recruitment is not a qualifying in-person university program for early arrivals prior to August 11th.

    When Can I ship Packages?

Please do not mail any packages to arrive at Granville Towers before August 9th. We do not have the storage space before move-in.

  • My Room

Can I cook in my room?

Microwave cooking is acceptable, but we cannot allow residents to use hot plates or any other appliance with an open heating element. Our on-site eatery, the Agora, has very flexible hours to accommodate any resident. In addition, we offer a Community Kitchen which residents can access to cook their favorite meals. Cookware and bakeware can be checked out from the East Desk.

Where can I rent a minifridge and microwave for my room?

Granville does not have its own appliances to rent out, but you may rent a Microfridge unit from Collegiate Concepts at https://www.collegiateconcepts.net/. You are also welcome to bring your own if you do not wish to rent from Collegiate Concepts.

Can I hang decor on the wall?

Yes! You may use thumb tacks and small picture hanging nails to decorate your room. You may not use sticky tape, putty, and command hooks to mount items to the wall. Additionally, a cork strip is installed on the wall near the window of our traditional double rooms so residents may decorate that side of their room more easily.

Is there a model room I can see?

Yes, provided that a few guidelines are followed. Please use our “Book a tour” feature to arrange either a virtual or in-person tour. If opting for in-person, include that in the comments section. Tours are offered seven days a week, between the hours of 10am-5pm, in 30 minute increments by appointment only. The maximum number of guests permitted is three, and all three must reside in the same household. Masks must be worn at all times.

  • Parking

How can I apply for parking?

Students will receive a link to add their name to our parking waitlist once they complete their lease.

Offers are made on a rolling basis according to placement on the waitlist.

    Who can apply for parking?

All residents can apply for parking, but because of limited space, we offer it to the upper-class students first.

How do I secure my space?

You can secure your spot by completing the full parking payment when the offer is extended. You will have 48 hours to respond and complete the offer.

When will I receive my parking pass?

Parking passes are distributed during move-in day.
